With summer going full swing, now is a good time to think about purchasing a home with a pool. Currently, there are over 270 houses for sale with pools ranging from the low $100,000’s to a high of just under $2,500,000. So with something in all price ranges, what are you waiting for?
KAFB, one of Albuquerque’s largest employers, has a long stable history in the area. Its impact on the city can be seen from the housing needs, which include the new area outside the Eubank gate to the diverse and talented personnel that enriches our city. We are fortunate that air force personnel transferred to Kirtland tend to stay longer than other base assignments.
Some trivia about Kirtland AFB:
Kirtland’s early beginnings started in 1935 when the Chamber of Commerce began lobbying for an air base. In 1939, the Army Air Corps built a flight training base and by 1941, Kirtland had dozens of buildings.
Kirtland was named in 1942 after Col. Roy C. Kirtland, an aviation pioneer.
During WWII, scientists at Kirtland developed and tested the Variable Time Proximity Fuze.
Kirtland Air Force Base monitors space junk at the Starfire Optical Range.
With over 25,000 employees and 80 square miles, Kirtland has a large economic impact on the city of Albuquerque and is one of the largest U.S. Air Force installations.
The current owner of Albuquerque’s Winrock Mall is proposing making part of the mall outdoors to include cafes and shopping. This would seem like a hybrid of the ABQ Uptown and Coronado malls. The developer is planning to unveil its plans on Thursday to area residents.
Personally, I would love to see Winrock revitalized. It ailed along for years until it was nothing more than a mere ghost of its former self.
What I see the area needing is a grocery store. Certainly not a Wal-Mart, but a nice grocery store for area residents to shop in. There currently isn’t an easily accessible store for uptown residents.
If I had a vote, I would put in an open green space. It wouldn’t need to be a large area because of water shortages in the desert, but a nice oasis in the middle of all the commercialism there.
